Abstract
The Spanish Schools of Languages have suffered important changes and transformations over the last decades. Specifically, they have been affected by huge transformations as far as language certificates are concerned. These had to be modified to respond to the new demands of the Council of Europe after the Common European Framework of Reference for languages was published. This paper proposes a historical revision of the laws that developed these changes before plunging into the legislation in force in the Community of La Rioja, where the current situation affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will be analysed. Through all this analysis, a general view is attempted, trying to provide the reader with basic tools to confront the question of language certificates in the Schools of Languages all over Spain.
