Visiting the centers is the most important attribution that the educational inspection has for the development of its functions. In this article we expose the importance of the visit as a fact of deep knowledge, its reason for being and the foundations for it to be carried out in an appropriate way to the new times, as well as the meaning and purpose of it. The principles that should govern visits to educational inspection centers, and the characteristics that those who carry them out should have. We develop the phases that, in general, should be followed in the visits for progressive knowledge. We conclude with some reflections on inspection visits in the 21st century.
