Abstract

Amanda Spielman has been HM Chief Inspector of Ofsted since January 2017. Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) is a non-ministerial department of the UK Government, which reports directly to the Parliament and is responsible for the inspection of several educational and social institutions, including state schools and some independent schools, among other competencies. During the last period of 2020, they have carried out a series of visits to British schools to document whether the education and social care sectors have risen to the challenges they have faced and how students and their families have responded to the dramatic events of the year.

On 15th December, BBC News published an article entitled «Covid-19 isolation ‘detrimental for children’– Ofsted«, which contains several considerations raised by Ms. Spielman, based on reports by the department she leads.
